Governing Schools through the pandemic and beyond: latest governors’ update

Our last two updates addressed issues relating to the closure and then the re-opening of schools. Last term schools were largely focusing on maintaining some sense of normalcy and for many Governors the emphasis was on monitoring and oversight of operational matters and managing risk.

In this latest update, we begin by considering immediate issues in relation to your monitoring and oversight role, some of which arise from the pandemic and others which do not but are of equal importance.  Topics include:

  • setting fee levels – anti-competition law
  • parent contracts
  • furloughing staff
  • remote learning
  • public exams
  • wellbeing.

The update includes useful links to resources and reports to support Governors in their roles.

We conclude with some thoughts about longer-term strategic matters. Colleagues at RSAcademics are available to assist with many of these issues and we look forward to hearing from you should you wish to discuss any of the points raised.

“I found RSAcademics to be thoroughly professional, totally honest and always helpful. Sometimes we have to look beyond what the Governors think they want... our final choice of candidate was surprising, exciting and unanimous.”
