Bursar and Clerk to the Governors – Homefield Preparatory School

Homefield Preparatory School is a thriving independent day school for 350 boys aged 4-13 years.

Salary: In the region of £70-£80,000 per annum, depending upon skills and experience

Located in a quiet residential area of the London Borough of Sutton, the school benefits from easy access to Central London as well as the beautiful Surrey countryside. For decades, the school has been renowned for its family atmosphere, small class sizes, and fulfilment of individual potential and academic success.

The Headmaster and Governors are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated, experienced and strategically focussed individual to become the new Bursar and Clerk to the Governors. The school is financially secure and has invested some £8 million in an exciting three-phase building project which is due for completion by September 2022. Pupil numbers have remained consistently healthy and are projected to continue to grow. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, proactive and dynamic individual to join the Senior Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in the ongoing strategic development of the school.

Reporting to the Headmaster, the Bursar is responsible for the delivery and efficiency of all support services at Homefield, as well as making a leading contribution to the school’s strategic direction and fulfilling the role of Clerk to the Governors. Areas of responsibility include finance, HR, estates, facilities, procurement, risk management and the generation of non-fee income.

The successful candidate will be an individual of proven senior leadership ability; a strategic thinker, innovative and collaborative by nature, displaying agile and flexible planning skills and possessing outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional financial acumen and robust commercial judgement will be essential. Prior school bursar experience is not a pre-requisite.
