Deputy Head – Learning and Teaching, Thomas’s Clapham

London SW11

Thomas’s Clapham are seeking to appoint a kind, creative, and passionate Deputy Head to be the leader of its learning culture.

Start date – September 2022

The Deputy Head – Learning and Teaching, is a key member of Thomas’s Clapham Leadership Planning Team (LPT). The role will be central to the realisation of the school strategic plan, with a specific focus on ensuring there is consistently better teaching in each and every class.

Thomas’s Clapham is one of four fully co-educational independent preparatory schools that are part of a family-owned group of schools founded in London by David and Joanna Thomas.  Thomas’s schools offer an education for boys and girls with high academic aims in a broad curriculum, taught by committed and inspiring teachers.

Thomas’s London Day Schools educate over 2,000 children at its four prep schools – Thomas’s Battersea, Thomas’s Clapham, Thomas’s Fulham, and Thomas’s Kensington, and in one kindergarten in Battersea. Thomas’s Academy, formerly New King’s Primary School, joined the Thomas’s family of schools in September 2015.

Thomas’s Clapham is based in the borough of Wandsworth, within a short walk to the wide-open spaces of Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common, and to local shops, restaurants and bars along the popular Northcote Road.

Thomas’s Clapham is a school with intellectual rigour and high academic standards and committed to developing a culture of thinking whereby pupils are safe, kind, calm, and ready to engage with others, ideas, and with action. This is grounded in the school’s belief that learning is a consequence of thinking, and that learning is everywhere. The school aims to have a community full of pupils who assume an active role in their learning, and who are adaptable thinkers. Much of this comes from the school embedding an instructional framework that allows for critical, creative and reflective thinking.

At Thomas’s Clapham, kindness and creativity are at its core, and it looks to embrace the joy of childhood in all that it does.

Thomas’s Clapham was recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding in each category in February 2018.

If you feel you have the right skills and experience for this role and are excited by Thomas’s Clapham’s approach to bringing out the best in every child in a supportive and hard-working setting, then we would be pleased to receive your application.
