The St Albans Education Group is looking to appoint a Head of STAHS Senior to give strategic vision and leadership for this prestigious school.

The new Head of STAHS Senior who will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Senior School whilst also playing a key role in developing and delivering the school strategy in line with the STAHS vision and values. Reporting to the Principal of the St Albans Education Group, the Head of Senior will sit on the Executive Team and chair the STAHS Senior School Leadership Team. The successful candidate will take responsibility for maintaining and developing the ethos of the Senior School within the Group, promoting excellence and high expectations of both staff and pupils. They will assist the Principal in providing strategic vision and leadership, working alongside the STAHS Senior School Leadership Team.

The Head of STAHS Senior will be a hands-on and experienced educator whose personal ethos and values are fully aligned with those of the Group and the School. They will have a minimum of five years’ experience of middle or senior leadership in an academically ambitious environment, have a track record of working collaboratively with members of the school community and will be able to communicate effectively and with confidence to parents, pupils and colleagues. They will have a warm, engaging, approachable and supportive personality balanced against a strong work ethic, excellent organisational skills and the ability to delegate responsibility appropriately. Maintaining a visible and consistent presence in the school through regular formal and informal interactions with pupils, parents and staff, the Head of Senior will be well-known and familiar to members of the school community. They will regularly attend events including academic and sporting competitions, music and drama performances, inter-house competitions, whole-school and house assemblies, parents’ evenings and parents’ seminars.

The Head of STAHS Senior will be grounded, reliable, flexible and pragmatic and will be a charismatic ambassador for the School and Group. They will work effectively with different stakeholders, get the best out of the people around them and operate with purpose, integrity, enthusiasm, good humour and tact.

This is a new role that has come about due to the restructure of STAHS’s leadership teams following the formation of the St Albans Education Group. The successful candidate should embrace the opportunity to develop, review and embed the position in the school in collaboration with the Principal.

This position is offered on a full-time basis.

The start date for this position is January 2025, although this may be flexible depending on candidate notice periods.
