TODAY’S SCHOOL GOVERNANCE IS AN ACTIVE, RESPONSIVE AND CHALLENGING PROCESS.
Recent years have seen a period of rapid change for school governors and senior leadership teams. New regulatory demands mean that school leaders must constantly make sure school policies and practices are current, understood and fully implemented by the whole school community.
Strong and effective governance means that school governors must have a deep understanding of a school’s vision, ethos and strategy. They must demonstrably provide effective monitoring and oversight of every aspect of school life.
The new Standard* on leadership and management requires the school proprietor (usually the governors) to ensure that persons with leadership and management responsibilities at the school consistently meet the Independent School Standards by:
- Demonstrating good skills and knowledge appropriate to their role
- Fulfilling their responsibilities effectively
- Actively promoting the well-being of pupils
This requires a new culture around governance and leadership and management. In recognition of this, RSAcademics has developed a new range of services to help governors and school leadership teams meet the demands of 21st century governance. Governance and compliance is led by Durell Barnes, former Deputy Director and Head of Communications at the Independent School Inspectorate. He works alongside a team of specialists with in-depth experience of school inspections, leadership and governance. They can appraise the present performance of your governing body, offer reassurance, make recommendations and reinvigorate their performance.
