Schools recognise that the selection of new staff is one of their most important decisions.
We often find that those involved such as Heads of Department and Senior Management Team members benefit from specialised training. It helps less experienced interviewers gain confidence that they are doing it right, and experienced interviewers welcome additional insights into best practice and the opportunity to discuss challenges.
We are therefore very pleased to offer training to help you improve how you recruit staff and build the skills of those involved.
Over the last few years we have piloted interactive, practical and engaging training materials, covering many aspects of interviewing and selecting staff.
We now offer courses that cover:
- Key findings from research into effective interviewing, reliability and validity
- Question design and technique (including a bespoke video)
- Difficult areas to assess at interview – for example, values and potential
- Defining selection criteria – the person specification
- Other selection activities in addition to interview
- Planning for and organising interviews
- Sharing ideas and best practice across your school
- Interviewing practice and feedback
Depending on the duration of the session, we cover all of these areas or just focus on those of most interest to the group.
We visit your school and run either a half day or a full day training session. The full day session, in particular, allows for additional skills practice.
We also organise training sessions open to participants from different schools. These are of interest to those who want to send one or two staff – for example, those recently promoted to Head of Department.
Courses start from £87.50 per person*, based on an in-house, full day course for 20 delegates.
|In-house training||One day||Up to 10 participants||£1,250|
|Up to 20 participants||£2,000|
|In-house training||Half day||Up to 10 participants||£1,000|
|Up to 20 participants||£1,750|
|Public course||One day||Cost per person||£230|
*In addition we charge VAT, and for in-house courses, reasonable travel cost.
