Galen’s experience encompasses twenty years as the Bursar and Clerk to the Governors of The King’s School Worcester, a successful co-educational school comprising one senior and two junior schools with nearly 1,500 pupils; it is also the choir school to Worcester Cathedral.
Prior to joining The King’s School, he was Bursar of St Clement Danes School for three years which he led to Grant Maintained status and worked with the St Clement Danes Holborn Estate Charity in relation to the application of the school’s private funds.
For most of the first part of his career Galen worked for the Costain Group and he has wide experience in contracting and property. Much of his time at Costain was spent on in-depth projects and special assignments, reviewing international subsidiaries, projects and joint ventures, including monitoring strategy and performance of businesses and key staff and investment appraisals.
Galen was educated at St Edward’s School, Oxford. Amongst various qualifications, he holds an MBA from Henley Management College, which focussed on strategy, strategic management and operations management, and he is a Member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
Galen is a Governor of Malvern St James’ Girls School and of St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester. He also served on the Management Committee of the Independent Schools’ Pension Scheme from 2001 to 2015 and, until recently, he was a Governor of Bishop Perowne Church of England Academy.
Amongst his other interests, Galen lists family, friends, psychology, biography, classical music, travel and the deeper things of life.
