Jo MacKenzie

Senior Advisor

Jo has over 30 years’ experience of working in the education sector culminating with the Headship of Bedford Girls’ School. Whilst much of her career has been in girls’ schools, Jo was one of the first female Heads of Department at Alleyn’s School, Dulwich. As Head, Jo was asked to merge the two girls’ schools in Bedford to form Bedford Girls’ School which, with over 900 pupils, is now one of the largest and most successful girls’ schools in central England.

Jo was educated in Australia and has much experience of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. As Head, she introduced to Bedford Girls’ School the IB’s Primary Years Programme. She was Chair of the GSA Sports Committee for five years, an ISI inspector and is currently Education Chair at The Whitgift Foundation and a Governor of St Mary’s School in Cambridge. She has recently become a member of the London and East Regional Advisory Board of the ECB with a particular interest in supporting women’s and girls’ cricket.

Jo has a Masters in Education and Leadership and has been asked to mentor many leaders as they start their careers as Heads. Now a trained headship appointments expert, Jo brings great depth and breadth of experience to the process.
