Mark Johnson

Mark joined the RSAcademics appointments team in September 2016. A graduate from Exeter University, he has 35 years experience working in two prep schools, starting his career at Summer Fields, Oxford in 1981 and then moving to Cheam School in 1998 where he was Headmaster for 18 years.
During his tenure, he transformed the school from an all boys boarding school of 125 to a fully co-ed, day and boarding school for 3-13 year olds of 420. He also drove forwards a multi-million pound development plan to transform the site. He has been actively engaged in fundraising for schools, and for charitable causes including Sentebale, the Lord’s Taverners, the Injured Jockeys Fund and GOSH.
Mark has governed four other schools and is currently a Trustee of Cumnor House in Sussex. He is a fellow of Wellington College and has sat on various IAPS and BSA committees and was the Secretary of the Oxford Group for five years. Mark is a former winner of Tatler’s Prep School Head of the Year.
