Deputy Head of Joint Junior School – City of London School for Girls & City of London School
City of London School for Girls and City of London School are delighted to announce the establishment of their joint junior school for girls and boys aged between 7 and 11 in the heart of London’s historic Gray’s Inn and are now looking for a Deputy Head for this exciting new school.
For January 2022 or April 2022
The school will open in September 2022 and offer automatic transfer for its pupils to the respective senior schools at 11+. It will occupy the former City School of Law building in Gray’s Inn in the London’s legal district within walking distance of both our senior schools.
This exciting project represents the start of a new, long-term association with Gray’s Inn, and reflects the dedication of both the Inn and the Corporation of London to education. The school will share the commitment of both City of London School for Girls (CLSG) and City of London School (CLS) to working in effective educational partnership with all schools in the City of London family, for the benefit of pupils across the capital. This foundation by two such leading schools with years of experience in collaboration will result in an exceptional provision, drawing strengths from both to deliver a modern, forward thinking and rigorous education. The first Head will be Rachel Thompson, current Head of Prep at CLSG.
The pupils will be taught in modern, light and airy classrooms, but will also benefit from having access to the stunning historic buildings of the Inn, such as the Hall for lunch, and beautiful green space of the Inn’s gardens. Our junior school will be a happy, supportive and stimulating school, which will allow children to develop as confident and grounded individuals with a life-long love of learning. We will place kindness and compassion at the heart of what we teach and offer a modern, forward-thinking and academically rigorous education which will enable children to be creative, collaborative and independent thinkers. Our pupils will leave our junior school ready to thrive at our senior schools, equipped with skills, experiences and friendships that will help them flourish throughout their lives.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and committed educator to join our junior school at the start of its journey, and to lead the development and delivery of an ambitious, inclusive, modern curriculum throughout the school. The post holder will provide inspirational academic and professional leadership in reviewing and developing the school’s learning and teaching, the curriculum, assessment, reporting and tracking and monitoring of pupils. They will work closely with the Head to prepare the school for opening in September 2022.
Applications are encouraged from senior leaders from a range of backgrounds who have the strategic vision, drive and energy to shape the learning culture of the school. This person will bring a leadership style based on openness, collaboration and innovation and will have excellent communication skills. They will understand and be committed to the ethos and values of the junior school and its parent schools (CLSG and CLS), and be ambitious for both the school and themselves.
