Bristol

THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS HAS NOW PASSED.

The Deputy Head Pastoral will be a dynamic and innovative individual with experience in a range of pastoral roles, who has a passionate interest in promoting the care and welfare of young people and is now seeking a pupil-facing leadership position.

For September 2021

With one Deputy Head retiring and one returning to Australia, Clifton College has taken the opportunity to review its Senior Leadership Team. The team is being expanded and restructured and the College is now looking to appoint three Deputy Heads for September 2021: Academic, Pastoral and Co-curriculum. This is an unusual and very attractive opportunity for three outstanding individuals to become members of a dynamic new Senior Leadership Team. As part of that team, the successful applicants will work together to realise the College’s exciting and ambitious development plans and to shape the future strategic direction of the school.

Founded in 1862, Clifton College is one of the leading independent boarding and day schools in the UK. The Upper School provides an exceptional all-round education for 724 girls and boys aged 13-18. 300 of these are boarders and 303 are in the Sixth Form. The Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory School cater for a further 525 pupils aged 2-13. The College is academically ambitious and is committed to providing a contemporary, challenging and enriching education for all its pupils within a warm, inclusive and spiritual environment.

The boarding ethos of Clifton ensures that community is at the heart of College life with pupil welfare and safeguarding holding primacy. The Deputy Head Pastoral will place pupils at the centre of their work and will lead the pastoral life of this progressive co-educational boarding and day school. He or she will develop further a pastoral culture, shaped by pupil voice, that encourages and promotes diversity and inclusion, and is an exemplar of best practice in supporting pupil wellbeing, mental health, health education and personal safety.

The life of the College is a full one, extending over weekends as well as weekdays. Each member of staff is required to play an active part in the co-curricular life of the College, and to serve as a tutor in a boarding or day House.

The successful candidate will be appointed by, and report directly to the Head of College, be a member of the Upper School Senior Leadership Team and play a key role in the strategic and operational management of the College as a whole.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their senior leadership career within one of the UK’s foremost boarding and day schools.
