Head – The King’s School, Worcester

King’s offers a balanced and holistic education with an academic core and a broad programme of artistic, sporting and intellectually-enriching activities.

From September 2020

HMC, IAPS co-ed, day, 1300 + pupils aged 2-18

King’s Worcester is a leading co-educational independent day school situated in beautiful surroundings alongside Worcester Cathedral and the River Severn. The King’s Foundation is a community of three schools: King’s Senior (11-18) and two Junior Schools: Kings St Albans and King’s Hawford (both 2-11).

With a history dating back to the 7th Century, and close links to the Cathedral, the school has a strong sense of tradition combined with a modern and successful approach to learning. It is particularly known for its friendly atmosphere and excellent relationships between staff and pupils.

The vacancy arises in the saddest of circumstances. Matthew Armstrong, Headmaster since 2014, died suddenly on August 11th. The Governors seek an inspirational leader to build on Mr Armstrong’s legacy and to take the school forward with compassion and sensitivity. The successful candidate will be an astute strategist with the ability to win quickly the respect of staff, parents and pupils; an educationalist with a passion for learning and an excellent communicator with business acumen.

Potential candidates wishing to discuss the post are invited to contact:

Holly Fitzgerald at or 07801 522913.

The closing date for applications is 10.00am on Friday 11th October 2019.

Candidates should complete their application form electronically and email it to RSAcademics, together with a covering letter addressed to the Chairman of Governors, Mr Hugh Carslake, which explains their reasons for applying. There is no need to submit a separate CV.

Please email your completed application form and covering letter (both as PDF files please) to our Operations Manager (Leadership Appointments), Jonathan Barnes, at:

The King’s Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
