Matthew Bartlett

Matthew read History at Cambridge and after time in industry qualified as a teacher at the University of Durham. His first teaching post was at Manchester Grammar School. He moved to Nottingham High School as Head of History and then to Deputy Head at St Bede’s College Manchester for eight years.

Before joining RSAcademics, Matthew was Headmaster of three schools over more than fifteen years. Firstly, Dover Grammar School for Girls and then St Aloysius’ College, Glasgow. His last role was as Founding Head  of Brighton College Vietnam. Joining in the planning phases, he recruited and shaped the initial leadership and teaching teams as well as recruiting more than 300 students. He has wide and deep experience of independent and state education both internationally and in the UK. He was appointed a National Leader of Education in 2015, working regionally within the UK to raise standards of leadership and governance.

In addition to his work at RSAcademics, Matthew is Chair of Governors at St Augustine’s Priory in Ealing, West London and is also a Member of the Scottish Children’s Hearings which champions the needs and rights of young people and families. He has worked sector wide on the boards of organisations such as HMC, SCIS and GSHA.
