Michael Spens

Michael is a Senior Advisor in the Appointments Team at RSAcademics. He is one of our most experienced Senior Advisors and his wisdom and guidance is behind a multitude of highly successful headship appointments. He works with schools across the UK to recruit senior leaders, supporting boards with contextual guidance, strategic insight and a deep understanding of outstanding leadership.  

Before joining RSAcademics, Michael was Headmaster of Fettes College in Edinburgh for 19 years, where he oversaw significant growth in pupil numbers and led the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme. Prior to this, he was Headmaster of Caldicott Preparatory School and previously taught geology and chemistry at Radley College, where he also served as a Housemaster for ten years. He began his career after reading Natural Sciences at Cambridge. He is a trained ISI inspector and recently completed his tenure as a governor of Oundle School.
