Stephen Roberts

Stephen is a Senior Consultant at RSAcademics leading on Strategy and Finance Consultancy. He works with governing bodies, Heads and senior leadership teams to shape long term strategic direction, strengthen financial resilience and support schools through complex decision making. Known for his calm authority and clear strategic thinking, Stephen brings deep operational insight and board level experience to every project. His work has helped schools navigate organisational change, evaluate future growth opportunities and align financial planning with educational ambition.

Drawing on his extensive career as a Head and Principal, Stephen offers a rare breadth of leadership experience spanning day, boarding, co educational and multi school environments. He began his career as Head of Physics at Oundle School before becoming a Housemaster. He went on to lead Felsted School as Headmaster for 15 years and later served as Principal of Stamford Endowed Schools. His leadership has consistently focused on long term sustainability, strategic growth and the delivery of a compelling educational offer.

Stephen’s governance experience is equally significant. He has experience as an ISI inspector and governing schools in Hertford, Cambridge and overseas. His work at board level is informed by a comprehensive understanding of school culture, regulatory compliance and effective oversight, insights he now brings to the governing bodies and senior teams he advises.

Stephen’s first contribution to RSAcademics came through the Ten Trends 2017/18 research report, where he provided early thought leadership on the emerging strategic priorities facing schools. Now a senior member of the Consultancy team, he continues to bring wide ranging expertise, sound judgement and a holistic view of school leadership to the firm’s strategy and finance work.

Stephen was educated at Mill Hill School and University College, Oxford.
